Stoppage-time goal sees Napoli claim 1-0 victory over Juventus
A dramatic stoppage-time goal from forward Giacomo Raspadori earned Serie A leaders Napoli a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Juventus on Sunday. Despite having two goals ruled out following VAR reviews, the runaway league leaders secured their eighth away league win in a row, putting them 17 points clear on 78 points. Napoli could potentially claim the title next weekend if they beat Salernitana and Lazio fail to win at Internazionale. Meanwhile, Juventus remain third on 59 points, two behind second-placed Lazio who lost against Torino on Saturday.
The first half saw defensive Juventus allowing Napoli to enjoy the lion's share of possession, waiting for opportunities to counter-attack. Neither side had many chances, with Juve managing only three shots on target. Napoli's first significant attempt came from winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia early in the second half, but Juventus keeper Wojciech Szczesny was equal to it.
The game sparked into life with 20 minutes left when Napoli came close to taking the lead through striker Victor Osimhen. Juventus responded by launching a stunning solo effort by Angel Di Maria in the 82nd minute, only to see it ruled out after a VAR check for Arkadiusz Milik's tackle on Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka in the build-up.
Late substitute Dusan Vlahovic thought he had found the net for Juve in added time, but his effort was also ruled out after the ball left the pitch before Federico Chiesa's cross. It was then Napoli's turn to strike, with Raspadori sealing the win with a first-time finish following a beautiful lofted cross by midfielder Eljif Elmas.
Juventus have now suffered their first three-game losing streak in Serie A since 2011 after a 1-0 loss to Sassuolo saw them fall to consecutive league defeats for the first time this term. They are winless in five of their last six games in all competitions.
